Although TLI was established originally as a Chinese training center and is still primarily known as such, we also have a thriving foreign language instruction business.  And while English is the most popular foreign language to study, we also offer courses in six other foreign languages including Japanese, French, Spanish, Korean, German and Russian, all of which are taught by native speakers.

Our foreign language teachers are a diverse bunch, hailing from all corners of the globe C from North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.  Moreover, our teachers come from all sorts of backgrounds: some are recent college graduates looking for adventure, others come to support themselves while studying Chinese, still others have made teaching into a profitable and rewarding career.  Whatever their reasons for coming to Taiwan, our teachers share a common passion for teaching and strive to provide their students with not only the highest quality instruction, but also the most enjoyable experience possible.

Liam Quinn, an American who decided to use English as a means to support himself while he learned Chinese, was surprised to find out just how rewarding an experience teaching English can be.  In ever expected it to be so enjoyable, he says, Ive had the opportunity to teach students of varying ages, language proficiency and purpose.  The diversity of the experience keeps you on your toes, and eagerness of the students to learn makes teaching a pleasure.  Also, Ive developed great relationships with a lot of my students, so a lot of times it doesnt even feel like work.  Another teacher, Catherine Shih, has relished the opportunity to work with young children.  She says, Teaching kids is not something I probably would have considered back home in the U.S., but when the opportunity came up here I took it and Ive enjoyed (almost) every minute of it.

Teachers and students alike appreciate TLIs flexibility.  Students can learn in groups or in an one-on-one environment.  They are able to choose from a variety of courses including (but not limited to) Business English, English Conversation, Writing, or Preparation for tests like the TOEFL, TOEIC and GEPT.  Similarly, teachers are allowed the freedom to teach the topics and students that are best suited to their personalities and qualifications.  The result of this model is a high rate of satisfaction among both teachers and students.

The Foreign Language Department is also excited to announce the launching of its new website.  The purpose of the new website is to allow us to exploit 21st Century technology to make learning even more convenient and enjoyable for our students.  We are undertaking an ambitious new plan that makes both online teaching and e-learning available to students who would otherwise have no way of meeting native speakers face to face.  So if you cant make it into language center, we hope to meet you in cyberspace.

        See you there!
